What Are Your PDF Document Security Needs And Preferences

Friday, June 20th, 2008

PDFs can be used to format anything. So the security measures you take will depend upon the intended purpose of the PDF itself.

* What kind of material does your PDF contain? Protection.

Does the PDF contain any personal information? An important work draft? Professional and financial information? In every case, you need to assess what needs to be protected and what doesn’t.

* Who is the PDF file intended for? Control.

Creating a document in PDF, you probably already have a sense of who the file is being sent to. However, ask yourself who the file isn’t intended for because this will determine what other precautions you may need to take.

* Will the PDF you create be used for on-line viewing? Accessibility.

If your document is allowed to be publicly or privately viewed, consider how you want that viewer to use your file. Do you want any information to be edited? Printed? You can set specifications on how much access the user has with the document.

Determining the answers to these questions will help you decide what kind of security your PDFs need. When you have made this determination, consider implementing them using the secure features of the secure Sonic PDF Creator to create your PDF documents.

Halogen Lights And How To Use Them

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Halogen lights and bulbs are types of the incandescent light technology. These lights and bulbs function by letting electricity pass through a filament or thin wire of tungsten enclosed by a tube of glass filled with halogen gas. The halogen gas serves as the catalyst for chemical reaction. The reaction causes the tungsten to be removed from the glass wall and deposited back to the filament. This is the cause of the bulbs’ long life. Though an offshoot of the incandescent technology, the filaments in halogen lights and bulbs must have higher temperature than those used in incandescent lights for the reaction to happen. This results in a brighter and whiter light.

However, the brighter light of halogen lights and bulbs causes the tungsten to evaporate faster, hence, the need for an expensive gas to stagger the evaporation. The gas of choice used is krypton gas. Together with a high pressure, these two effectively stagger and lower the evaporation rate of tungsten in halogen lights. This process also requires a thicker and smaller bulb which translates into higher temperature. A temperature of 300 degrees Celsius is not uncommon for halogen bulbs. This is the reason why halogen lights got the reputation of being fire hazards. But there is no need to worry about fires due to these lights if they are used and installed properly.

First, be careful to avoid touching halogen glass bulbs with bare fingers. Not only it is hot, but the natural oils or sebum from our hands can damage the bulb by weakening the glass. This may cause the glass to explode if and when the tungsten burns out. Second, install them in low traffic areas. This way, the risk of brushing or coming into contact with people is greatly reduced. Third, keep halogen lights and bulbs from objects that are flammable and prone to scorching. Halogens can used in closets or rooms if you are sure that they will have at least 18 inches clearance from clothes and objects that are easily burned. If you must use them in cramped and closed areas, like glass-topped shelves, minimize heat caused by the bulbs by replacing higher watt bulbs with lower-watt bulbs. Drilling air holes or vents in the cabinet can help in reducing and preventing trapped heat.

To recap, halogen lights and bulbs can be used for your advantage because of their efficiency and longer life. They are usually compact and can be dimmed. Though they are also disadvantaged to use for being fire hazards. The danger of causing fire with halogens are largely dependent on our use of it and maintenance.

Does Insecurity Halt Your Personal Growth

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Everyone big or small, old or young would love to feel a
sense of security and well being all of the time in such a
seemingly short life.

However, through life’s trials of inevitable ups and downs,
we sometimes believe that our self worth is supposed to be
sub-par, as if the world saw that if we were strong inside, it
wouldn’t function properly. The earth’s axis would go into
some unhealthy tilt and its rotation would cease.

We wouldn’t be serving ourself or anyone else correctly if
this were true, so why are we content to become less than
what we can be and settle with our comfortable insecurities
that we know so well?

Most people, if you were to strip them of everything they
have inside, are merely searching for love and meaning in
their lives; but to some, it is a never-ending, self-fulfilling
prophecy of dead ends and wrong routes taken.

You are always going to be your worst enemy and
suppresser in seeking your personal nirvana!

If you were your biggest fan, you would clone yourself and
when you stepped up to bat, there would be 75,000
screaming you’s cheering for your success. Insecure people
take the pleasure in feeding a massive dose of negativity
inwards and therefore would love to stay as a boo bird,
hoping for your own failure.

After all, isn’t that what society would love to have happen
to you? Stay down with the masses and wallow in the mire
with them, because misery loves company.

You were probably taught by society or learned this
yourself, but certainly, you were not born with this
affliction.

Have you ever heard that it’s all in your head? Ninety nine
percent of your success whether professionally, personally,
or athletically comes from inside you and your physical
attributes are merely that, tangible aspects of you and thats
all.

If you were given ninety health filled days to live, how
would you live them? Would you throw everything at the
wall, put the petal to the metal, dive the deepest blue sea,
scale the highest peak?

Although, you could live truthfully, confident, secure in
yourself, and show all the beautiful colors that you came
into this world with, those colors that have been skewed
and faded for such a long time.

This mindset of not taking today or tomorrow for granted
and knowing that the end could happen at anytime; and
therefore living this gift of life as honest, not only to
yourself, but others, is extremely powerful.

The truth will set you free!

Insecurity cages you in a personal prison when you could
be sailing behind warm winds towards a brighter and more
gratifying future. It rents space in your mind and asks you
to pay its bills. It impedes your personal progression and
tells you that you can’t, when you can.

Regretfully, this is an internal force, not something external
that you can run far away from and never see again.

Looking back, do you see your past and at some points
feeling so insecure in some situations that the required task
couldn’t be completed because you felt inept?

Were you so insecure within that you had to feel secure by
controlling others? If you were secure, you would know
that your security is about letting go and having faith in
your abilities no matter what situation your in.

Being secure is not “I’m better than you and I’m going to
constantly show you;” to the contrary, it is an inner
confidence that needn’t be exuded, but known within,
regardless of a checkered or questionable past.

Remember, you are not on earth a very long time in the
whole scheme of things, so wouldn’t it be better to get
the best you can out of yourself instead of locking
everything up in an internal safe of insecurities?

Safety Policy Sample Outline

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Writing a safety manual is a tough job and most larger corporations outsource such jobs or they have someone on staff with the proper credentials in risk management. Imagine writing the safety manuals for NASA? I had the opportunity to be in the unique position of being able to imagine just such a thing when writing our company safety manuals. It takes lots of studying and review of case law to do it properly. Each industry is somewhat different and hopefully you know your industry and company well enough to give it a shot.

Below is an outline, which you can use to assist you in writing your company safety manual, it is written for my company in the car wash business so it will need a little modification for your use. First I recommend that you print this article and even if you do not think of safety as rocket science, for this exercise pretend that it is. It is that serious. Safety is paramount in any company and a few preventative policies firmly in place can prevent death or injury and prevent expensive lawsuits, which could bankrupt your company.

First I recommend that you print out this outline and then modify it so that it fits your business or industry. Then put pen to legal pad and write up to five paragraphs for each item number and letter. Once completed this will be your rough draft. Give this to your secretary to type up and triple space. Then bring this up in your next team meeting and get some additional insight from a couple star employees. Safety is everyone’s business, as the saying goes. After a few revisions you are ready to turn this into a manual. Before completing this project take this plan and discuss it with a safety specialist in your industry for pointers and possible wording, you may also find sample safety plans which you can borrow key phrases. Finally run the entire thing by an attorney specializing in OSHA Safety. Yes I know, you hate lawyers, however in this case you need them to prevent being hosed by other lawyers in the future. I sincerely hope this outline below helps you in your safety manual writing endeavors. You can thank me later, right now you have work to do.
